Sorrentino's West

I’ve been to Sorentino‘s West a few times as I live nearby and I always leave with the same impression, great service but the food is just good. That’s it, . . . not great, just good. The ambience and service deserve a near five star but it would not be accurate to give five stars for the food when there is potential for improvement. In fairness to these guys, nobody in Edmonton is doing over the top Italian. There are a couple of places by a restaurant group that are nearing that high praise, but this group is not it. They were close at one time when the downtown location was the flagship. Then why is the West End doing so well, two reasons; the service is top-notch and the establishment is frequented by the locals in the nearby well to do neighborhood. It seems that great service and good food is good enough for this part of town. The place is packed on most weekend nights, a reservation is suggested. Tonight, it being a Monday, we sat in a packed section-because that is where they sat everyone, leaving the bulk of the room empty. Tonight I had the six pack of small plates. For a fee you can have any three (or any six) of six appetizer offerings. I went with one of each of all six. Presentation is much better than flavour with the best being the Arancini. The one downside was the mushroom bruschetta drizzled with truffle oil, it was either too much oil or not the best quality oil. Either way, truffle oil should be used more sparingly as it is a strong flavour. My dinner mate had the Carbonara and the Prawns-Calamari combo. He and I come regularly and he many times gets these dishes, I’ve picked at these same two dishes in the past and they are decent choices. The prawns are a good size. In the past, I’ve had the potato pizza and although flavourful, each time I do I have to remind them please make it well done and please don’t slather it with oil. Be sure to request a lighter oil preparation for the dishes I mentioned as oily above. I will continue to return for the big glasses of vino, the great service and, my eye caught a great looking Veal Cannelloni (w white sauce) as I was leaving. I want to test that out next time because one thing I do not order in Italian restaurants strangely-is pasta .

I was there Friday for the first time ever for a work Christmas supper. A very warm and welcoming interior and friendly staff that were very attentive. The food was amazing and authentic, the wine was delicious as well :) Will be back for sure. This is a great place for a romantic supper or small party. Our waitress was amazing and funny she made the whole evening fun.

generally it is good, but I was very disappointed for tonight’s dish, a lobster tail pasta. the shell looks ok, the size is reasonable however the meat shrink into a mini size smaller than the prawn of my other dish of seafood pasta, both are $45. no it is definitely not worth the price.

All the foods were great, but the most outstanding dishes were the steak, panna cotta, and pasta. The steak was incredibly juicy and tender, cooked to perfection—exactly how I like it. The panna cotta was creamy and rich, with just the right amount of sweetness to finish the meal. As for the pasta, it was perfectly al dente, with a flavorful sauce that complemented the texture beautifully. Each dish was a true standout in its own way!

We were party of 5 and walk in, there were few empty tables in the Tuesday evening so the restaurant is pretty popular. All the staff was so friendly to our 7 years old kid, she even got crayons and some coloring sheet to draw while waiting for food so at the end of our night she was adoring them. We ordered a lot of food because did not expect portions to be this huge and so delicious for this price. I also wanted to mention how great waiter Bella was, all my family loved her, we got more than enough attention that could not but please. It was our first and definitely not the last time being in Sorrentino. The best restaurant in the whole West end .

I have visited this location three times with my boyfriend, December 2023, December 2024 and this past Sunday, July 27. While our previous experiences had amazing service with our waiters going above and beyond, our most recent experience was anything but that. Based on this experience alone, I would’ve given the service 1.5/5, but with our other ones, I give it 3/5 overall. Our other servers were 5/5, but this is an average. Our waitress seemed like she had something against us the entire time, and did not put any effort into our experience. I cannot remember her name, probably because I just wanted to block it out and try to focus on our date, but it started with an O. Unlike our previous visits, there was no attempt for any sort of conversation, and we were only given “okay” and “thanks” when we ordered anything. There was nothing past that. Our neighbour table was given the complete opposite when it came time to pay their bill, which we were still being ignored. By the time we had our dishes cleared, we asked for the bill, and waited for 20 minutes. At this point, the restaurant was dead, and we were just quietly sitting alone. The only genuine interaction that was extended to us the entire night was when I paid the bill and still tipped her over 20%. We were so looking forward to another experience here based on the service we have had our first two visits, but this weeks was outwardly awful, and has left a poor taste in my mouth the entire week. I would recommend you to request a server you are familiar with if you choose to visit this location. Unfortunately, we are unlikely to return.

We loved our dinner here tonight. Service was great, food was outstanding, we all left stuffed and with leftovers. The live music was a nice touch, very enjoyable. The kids menu has some great options that our kids were excited to try. We also found the prices very reasonable. We will definitely eat here again on future trips to Edmonton!
